Large scale process safety incidents are catastrophic and lead to significant loss of life and cost organisations billions, whilst they are infrequent the impact and damage can last decades. The team are exploring if it is possible to find valuable insight that could be used to prevent such catastrophic incidents in alternative data sources, such as Occupational Safety Datasets.
Traditionally occupational safety and process safety have been distinct disciplines and considered separately (as one provides information on high frequency low consequence events and the other low frequency, high consequence events) but this novel work is searching for crossovers which could save lives. The concept was presented last year at Hazards 29, today Matt is presenting developments in the research highlighting how AI techniques have been applied to extract insight and the impact the insight could have.
