About
The research vision for the Institute of Business, Industry and Leadership (IBIL) is to become a leading Institute with research-active academic staff producing work of the highest significance and impact. The aim is to be notable for multidisciplinary, applied research and to educate high quality researchers, recognising diversity in methodologies and impact. The research should reflect the anchor role played by the university, based on its existing and emerging strengths.
In IBIL, Professor Andrew Gale, undertook research, in 2019, for the Discovering Safety Programme, investigating non-radiological loss of containment in the nuclear sector. That work is reported in the journal: Process Safety and Environmental Protection. His further research under this programme is ongoing. Andrew is Professor of Project Management, in IBIL and a member of the university’s Senior Leadership Team. He holds also the Emeritus Chair in Project Management in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at The University of Manchester.
The University of Cumbria was created on the 1st August 2007, with headquarters in Carlisle, with major campuses in Ambleside, Lancaster and London and a formal presence in Workington and Barrow. The university is the anchor higher education institution in the region. Alongside its main function it plays a significant and recognised role in Cumbria by making a strategic contribution to the local economy: developing the workforce by attracting talent and upskilling the local population and addressing the issues of social mobility which have constrained the development of communities in the past.
